South Africa Returns Triumphant from Moscow.

The 2010 Liebherr World Team Table Tennis Championships that was held in Moscow, Russia from the 23 to the 29 May was an exciting all star event, that was attended by 109 Countries of which South Africa was a proud participant.

The 14 strong South African contingency (4 Male Athletes – Theo Cogill, Shane Overmeyer, Luke Abrahams & Kurt Lingeveldt, 3 Female Athletes – Khanyisile Madlala, Sameera Maal & Zodwa Maphanga, 2 Coaches - Marcus Gustafson & Margie Luckay, 3 Delegates – Ganief Fataar, Hajera Kajee & Audrey MacDonald) carried themselves with pride in amongst all the internationally acclaimed athletes, coaches and delegates present. The 2 International Umpires, Genevieve Lentz & Nigel Adams added to the glittering affair.

From the outset, it was a given that whomever South Africa faced  in the group stages of the Team Matches, toughness of mind and body was applied.

The above necessitated that both coaches Mr Marcus Gustafson ( Men) And Miss Margaret Luckay (Women) ensured that each point was maximised and won with confidence.

The Men’s team ended up in 62nd position which is a climb of 7 positions from their 2009 ranking. This achievement was matched by the Ladies Team when they advanced from 88 to 69th position. The display and commitment of our athletes at the 2010 World Championships is a huge achievement that has improved South Africa’s World Ranking.

Mr Marcus Gustafson from Sweden, an Internationally Accredited Coach, has been employed by the SATTB as from 1 April 2010 on a two year contract.
