Brief: Moving Without The Ball In Doubles
Author Name: Carl Danner
Description:
In basketball, players need to keep moving and vying for position even when they don't have the ball.In doubles, something similar happens when it is your partner's turn to hit. Based on her shot and its direction, you should start to move back into position (where you think a return is likely) even before she moves away. Then, as the ball reaches your opponent, stop and take a balanced ready position so you are ready to go in any direction. That stop is important, because if you keep moving instead, you will have a hard time reversing direction to get a ball that goes the other way.Because doubles involves moving farther than is typical in singles, many players end up running for the ball on their turn to hit because they aren't used to the distance involved. Since you should know which way your partner will move after her shot, use that information to move back into position instead of being a passive spectator, standing in place.
